Students in the Career and Technical Education program at Estes Park High School have a new reason to get their hands dirty. A $4,256 grant from the Rotary District, secured by the local Sunrise Rotary Club, is funding upgraded equipment and materials for the school's skilled trades courses.

The money is being used to refresh the woodworking and construction technology labs, giving students experience with tools and techniques that mirror current industry standards. For many teens, this is their first real taste of what a career in carpentry, cabinetry, or general contracting actually involves. The goal is to close the gap between classroom theory and the practical demands of the job site.

Instructors say the timing is critical. With a growing regional shortage of qualified tradespeople, high school programs like this are a direct pipeline into local apprenticeships and entry-level positions. The grant covers more than just new saw blades and safety gear. It also funds project-based learning kits, allowing students to complete larger, more complex builds from start to finish.

Sunrise Rotary members visited the campus to see the new setup in action. They watched students measure, cut, and assemble framing components for a small storage shed. For the club, this is about investing in the community's future workforce. For the students, it means leaving high school with a resume that includes real, verifiable skills.
