The University of Hawaii system is expanding its tuition-free course offerings to include elementary teacher education, opening a new pathway for working adults to enter the classroom. Starting this fall, the program will cover the cost of core classes needed to earn a teaching license, removing a major financial barrier for those considering a career change.
The initiative builds on a previous pilot that offered free tuition for special education courses. Interested applicants must meet standard admission requirements and commit to teaching in Hawaii public schools after earning their license. The university expects the expanded offering to help fill hundreds of vacant teaching positions across the islands.
