The Lane Education Service District (ESD) Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Dr. Tenneal Wetherell as its incoming superintendent. The decision follows a comprehensive statewide search and a unanimous vote by the board.
Dr. Wetherell brings a wealth of experience to the role, having most recently served as the Deputy Superintendent of the Oregon Department of Education. In that position, she played a key role in implementing statewide education initiatives and supporting school districts. Her extensive background also includes over two decades in public education, with prior leadership roles as a superintendent and principal within Oregon.
Board Chairperson Rose Wilde expressed strong confidence in the selection, citing Dr. Wetherell’s proven leadership, deep understanding of Oregon’s educational landscape, and unwavering commitment to student success. Wilde stated that Dr. Wetherell’s vision aligns perfectly with the district’s mission to support local school districts and improve outcomes for all students.
Dr. Wetherell expressed her honor at being chosen to lead the agency, emphasizing her dedication to collaborative work with educators, families, and community partners. She is set to officially begin her tenure on July 1, succeeding the current superintendent. The Lane ESD provides crucial services, programs, and support to 16 public school districts and several charter schools across Lane County.
