Iowa kids compete on global stage in Lego robotics

A group of young engineers from Iowa is heading to an international competition this summer, having earned a spot in the global FIRST Lego League championship. These students will not only run their custom-built robots against teams from around the world but will also present their research and problem-solving skills to judges.

The journey started during the regular FIRST Lego League season, where Iowa teams designed, built, and programmed autonomous Lego robots to complete specific missions on a themed playing field. Alongside the robot games, each team had to identify a real-world problem and develop an innovative solution. The students who advanced stood out for their technical precision, teamwork, and creative thinking.

At the global event, the Iowa kids will face off against competitors from dozens of countries. The pressure is high, but the experience offers a rare chance to collaborate with peers from different cultures and learn from top engineers and mentors. For many of these students, the competition is more than a trophy hunt. It is a launchpad for future careers in science, technology, and engineering. Coaches and parents say the kids have put in countless hours after school and on weekends, refining their robot designs and rehearsing their presentations. Now, they get to prove that Iowa's young minds can compete with the best in the world.
