Chickasha Special Education Teacher Charged with Child Abuse Following February Incidents

A special education teacher employed at Chickasha Public Schools is now facing multiple child abuse charges after two separate alleged incidents involving students occurred in February. The charges stem from accusations that the teacher physically harmed children under their care, raising serious concerns about safety within the district’s special education program.

According to court documents, the first incident reportedly took place on February 12, when the teacher is accused of grabbing a student by the arm and forcefully pulling them, resulting in visible bruising. The second alleged incident occurred on February 20, during which the teacher is said to have struck a student in the face, causing swelling and redness. Both students involved are part of the special education program, which serves children with various disabilities and learning challenges.

The Chickasha Police Department launched an investigation after school administrators reported the incidents to authorities. Following the investigation, the teacher was arrested and formally charged with two counts of child abuse. The teacher has since been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. The school district has stated that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and has implemented additional training for staff to ensure student safety.

The case has sparked outrage among parents and community members, many of whom are calling for greater oversight and transparency in special education classrooms. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month, where the teacher will have the opportunity to respond to the charges. If convicted, the teacher could face significant prison time and will be required to register as a child abuser.
