Aimee Lou Wood stepped into the spotlight as the host of SNL UK this week, bringing her signature charm and a healthy dose of self-deprecating humor to the sketch comedy stage. The actress, best known for playing the lovable Aimee Gibbs on Sex Education, did not shy away from poking fun at her own career highlights and the viral moments that have followed her.
In her opening monologue, Wood addressed the elephant in the room: her role on the hit Netflix series. She joked about the awkwardness of filming intimate scenes and how her character's journey from a popular teen to a trauma survivor resonated with audiences in unexpected ways. But she did not stop there. Wood also took aim at her recent appearance on The White Lotus, where she played a slightly unhinged British tourist. She laughed about how the show's creator, Mike White, apparently saw something "unhinged" in her during their first meeting.
The highlight of the night, however, was her playful jab at a viral clip featuring Kim Cattrall. Wood reenacted the now-famous moment where Cattrall, in a recent interview, gave a perfectly timed, deadpan response to a question about her former Sex and the City co-stars. Wood admitted she had watched the clip "about a hundred times" and tried to channel that same energy during a sketch about a tense dinner party. The audience roared as she delivered the line with a straight face, proving she can handle both drama and comedy with equal skill.
